Handicap betting tips
A handicap gives one team a head start or a deficit in goals before kickoff, so a lopsided fixture prices up evenly. Instead of backing a heavy favourite at 1.20, you can back them at −1.5 for a far bigger price — but then they must win by two goals or more.

How Handicap works
Minus is a requirement, plus is a head start
−1.5 on the home side means they must win by two or more. +1.5 on the away side means they can lose by one and the bet still wins.
Asian handicap removes the draw
On a whole line such as −1.0, the bet is voided and the stake returned if the favourite wins by exactly one. That is the difference from European handicap, where the same result would be a loss.
Quarter lines split the stake
A line like −0.75 splits the bet in two: half on −0.5 and half on −1.0. You can therefore finish with a half win or a half loss rather than all or nothing.
Where the value actually sits
Handicap earns its keep exactly where 1X2 is dull. A favourite at 1.20 pays almost nothing for real risk, while the same side at −1.5 forces a harder but better-paid judgement: not just whether they win, but how comfortably. Assess how a team tends to win — narrowly or convincingly — rather than how often.
This is a read on the market, not a guarantee. Betting carries a risk of loss — only stake what you can afford to lose. 18+. Responsible gambling.
Handicap questions
What does handicap −1.5 mean?
The team must win by at least two goals for the bet to win. A 1–0 win loses, even though the team won the match.
What is the difference between Asian and European handicap?
Asian handicap has no draw outcome — on whole lines the stake is refunded instead. European handicap keeps three outcomes, with the handicap draw a separate bet in its own right.
When is a handicap worth using?
Mainly in lopsided fixtures, where the outright price is too short to pay for the risk. A handicap lets you take a meaningful price on a team you already fancy.
