How BTTS works

Goal volume is not the point

This is the most common misreading of the market. A high-scoring match is not automatically BTTS yes — 5–0 is a goal glut that settles as no.

One side usually decides it

BTTS almost always hinges on the weaker attack. A team kept out in four of its last five makes the yes side expensive regardless of how freely the opponent scores.

Abandonment voids the bet

If the match is abandoned before full time the bet is normally voided and the stake returned, unless the bookmaker applies its own minimum-minutes rule.

Where the value actually sits

BTTS rewards consistency rather than peak quality. A mid-table side that scores exactly one goal in almost every match is worth more to the yes side than a strong side alternating between four goals and none. Look at how often each team has scored, not how many they have scored in total — the two point in different directions more often than people expect.

BTTS questions

What happens on 0–0?

The no side wins. Both teams must score for yes to settle, and 0–0 means neither did.

Do own goals count for BTTS?

At almost every bookmaker, yes. An own goal is credited to the team it counts for in the final score, so it counts as that team having scored.

Is BTTS easier to hit than Over 2.5?

They correlate but are not the same bet. A 2–0 match is over 1.5 goals and BTTS no; a 1–1 match is under 2.5 goals and BTTS yes. Treating them as interchangeable is a common and expensive mistake.
